Hong Kong Terminal Planespotting - 001

Here are some shots while transiting at Hong Kong International Airport. Had lots of hours (and memory space) to spare, here are some of it. Not going to go in sequential, just random shots here and there. This round, will be all Boeing 777s.

Singapore Airlines B777-312ER (9V-SWS)

Engines up and running and on its way to the active runway. The van serves as an interesting size comparison between an aircraft, and a land craft. Managed to get it just as the cloud cover scattered to allow some light through.

Air France B777-223ER (F-GSPM)

This one just parked and is ready for refuelling, reloading and for passenger disembarking.

Cathay Pacific B777-367ER - With some wing flex

I know, this is not exactly Hong Kong Terminal, but in my defense, we were descending to Hong Kong. Just passing through some space in between two layers of clouds.

Three for now.

I do welcome comments. :)

2014.02.22 Spotting Session Part 1

Time for some spotting again. Duration was shorter than usual though as had to slot this session in between other excursions. However, the catches were great. Here are some that passed through the lens to the sensor.

AirAsia A320-216 (9M-AJE) with sharklets

Malindo Air ATR72-600 (9M-LMG)

Malaysian Maritime CL-215 (M71-02) waterbomber.
This could be the aircraft used for firefighting the forest fires in the nearby state.

First time seeing Cathay's 777-300ER in Penang (B-HPG)

It's really LONG. I remember walking towards the galley in this aircraft from my seat. Thought it will be a direct path, but along the way, lots of passengers got up in front of me and clogged the passage. Interesting experience nonetheless.

Malaysia Airlines B737-4H6 (9M-MML)

I wonder how much longer will these -400 series remain with MAS.

Another part coming up which will include Silk Air's LATEST B737-800.

Stay Tuned

2014.01.11 Spotting Session #3

Now to the third installment of the spotting session. By this time, it was near noon but the sun was still nowhere in sight.

The cloud provided great shield from the sun though, to look at the bright side of things. Firstly, a closeup of Firefly's First ATR72-600 head on.

9M-FIA - with Setia paint-scheme

Too close perhaps. Malindo's ATR72-600 (9M-LMF)

I saw the next aircraft approaching from a distance. So I decided to walk away from the centerline to get a different view. The outcome is shown next.

Lion Air B737-8GP (PK-LKQ)
Just love this angle of the aircraft, fully showing off its flaps and winglets.

Then, while walking back to the centerline, the corner of the eye caught two moving things at low altitude. Ran back, and got the next 2.

Royal Army's Westland Lynx
ZE378

Their bright orange doors sure stand out in the gloomy environment. Some blue skies are starting to appear.

XZ651
Though it was short-lived as the cloud quickly covered the sun again. Here's Silkair's A320. They have placed orders for B738s, in their efforts to go all Boeing. Check out 9V-MGA.

9V-SLF

Then the heavy for this series. Cathay Pacific A330-343X, gliding in gracefully, seemingly unaffected by the wind.
B-HLW

This is all for this session. Thanks for dropping by. Do check in for more updates.

An Impromptu Spotting Session

This was an impromptu spotting session sometime in the evening. The timing was right, the camera was available and thus .... *click click click.

Let's start with Cathay's Queen of the skies.

B747-467F (B-HUP)
Coming in through the hot sunny evening

Thai AirAsia A320-216 (HS-ABI)
I see something like a patch work above the "everyone" word

Malaysia Airlines B737-4H6 (9M-MMB)
A back lit photo, or rather a back-of-the-plane-lit-photo

Hong Kong Airlines A320-214 (B-LPG)
This was a greater outcome than the previous shot which came in late on a cloudy day. This one was on time and had great lighting. The Red,Orange,Yellow just shoots out and adds that tinge to this shot.

Firefly ATR72-500 (9M-FYB)

And what better way to end it than Cathay's passenger long-hauler.

Cathay Pacific A340-313X (B-HXA)

That's all. Thanks for viewing.

2014.01.11 Spotting Session #1

One would think that after a heavy rain, the skies would be clear. But this was not the case on that Saturday. There was plenty of cloud cover to shield the sun's VIBRANT rays all the way till midday. While this affected the photos tremendously, it was a cool and windy spotting session with great company of friends.

Let's begin.
Cathay Pacific B747-467 (B-HOP) "Hopping" out of Penang International Airport

Thai Airways International B737-4D7 (HS-TDG) replacing the A306

AirAsia's Brand New A320 with Sharklets (9M-AJE)

China Southern Airlines A320-232 (B-6910)

Korean Air Cargo B747-4B5(F) (HL 7437)

Same Korean Air with smoke trails

Eva Air Cargo B747-45E(F) (B-16483)

This Eva Air used the same length of runway used by the ordinary A320s of AirAsia. Must have been a really light load out of Penang to be able to perform as such.

More to come.... Stay Tuned.

The Pearl of the Orient... A place visited by many regional aircraft like the A320 and the B737 of AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines respectively. But that's not just it. We have heavies coming in as well. Here's updates from the mid of December.

Cathay Pacific Airways B747-412 (B-HKE)

Korean Air Cargo B747-4B5F (HL7485)

Really slow and leisurely takeoff. Must be fully loaded.

AirAsia A320 in Expedia Livery (9M-AFG)

AirAsia's 100th Awesome Plane (9M-AQH)

China Airlines B747-409F (B-18710)

Specials and heavies this round.

Thanks for viewing.

Highlights of Penang - November 2013 - Part 1

Here we are back at Penang. After catching that rare A343 departing from Penang a few weeks ago, that got me even more charged up to head back to the airport for even more exciting shots. So here are some of the highlights.

Thai Airways International A300B4-622R (HS-TAX)

Cathay Pacific B777-367 (B-HNN) showing off its incredible wingflex

FedEx MD-11F (N589FE)

FedEx MD-11F (N610FE)

Tigerair A320-232 (9V-TAV) with tiger stripes

FedEx A300B4-622R(F) (N721FD)

Firefly ATR72-600 (9M-FIA) - Firefly's New Pride
Interesting how they have the "Bandit Mask" at the cockpit

Stay Tuned for Part 2
